Mountain Hawks earn 7-0 sweep of Delaware

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Lehigh men's tennis team claimed a dominant 7-0 win over visiting Delaware Saturday afternoon inside the Lewis Tennis Center. The Mountain Hawks won two of three doubles matches to earn the doubles points before sweeping the singles contests to improve to 3-1 overall. The Blue Hens fall to 0-5 on the season.
"I'm proud of how Karchere-Sun and Prince stepped up to clinch the doubles point today," said Howard Talmud '77 Head Coach Wouter Hendrix. "Delaware fought all day but we kept our composure. It was also nice to see Kochman get on the board. Our team awaits another test against Mount Saint Mary's tomorrow."
The Mountain Hawks dropped the first doubles match at the second flight, but bounced back as senior Jeremy Kochman and junior Graham Lehman earned a 6-4 win at the top flight. Senior Ricardo Prince and sophomore Dylan Karchere-Sun then clinched the doubles point at the third flight with a hard-fought 7-6 (3) win over the Blue Hens.
Sophomore Jack Petersen secured the first singles victory for the Mountain Hawks at the third flight with a 6-3, 6-2 decision over Venkatesh Ramkumar. Kochman then earned his first singles victory of the season at the top flight with a 6-2, 7-5 win over Mike Furr. Freshman Bryant Born dropped his first set 4-6 to Tyler Flematti at No. 2 singles, but bounced back with 6-0 and 6-2 wins in the second and third sets, respectively, to clinch the match for the Mountain Hawks.
Lehigh continued its dominance at the bottom of the lineup as freshmen Christoper Auteri and George Cooper earned wins at No. 4 and No. 5 singles, respectively. Junior Tyler Hansen then secured the 7-0 sweep with a 7-5, 6-4 win over Tim Puterio at the sixth flight.
The Mountain Hawks return to action Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m. when Lehigh hosts Mount St. Mary's inside the Lewis Tennis Center.
