Mountain Hawks suffer first loss of season with tough 4-3 defeat to Stony Brook

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Lehigh men's tennis team went down 4-1 to visiting Stony Brook before winning the fifth and sixth flights of singles, but it was too little, too late as the Seawolves earned a 4-3 victory Friday evening inside the Lewis Tennis Center. The loss marks Lehigh's first of the season as the Mountain Hawks fall to 2-1 while Stony Brook moves to 1-0.
Sophomore Jack Petersen, freshman George Cooper and junior Ethan Bogard earned Lehigh's three points in singles play.
Senior Jeremy Kochman and junior Graham Lehman claimed the top flight of doubles 7-6 (6), but the Seawolves earned wins at No. 2 and No. 3 to claim the doubles point.
Stony Brook came out on top of No. 4 and No. 1 singles to quickly take a 3-0 match lead. Petersen grabbed a 6-4, 6-3 win over Jose Morales at the third flight to put Lehigh on the board, but the Seawolves followed by clinching the match at No. 2 singles as freshman Bryant Born dropped a close 6-3, 2-6, 6-4 decision to Samuel Taieb.
Bogard defeated Hari Rohan 6-3, 7-6 (4) at No. 6 singles before Cooper grabbed the fifth flight 7-6 (4), 3-6, 10-1 to put the final match score at 4-3.
The Mountain Hawks will look to bounce back next weekend when Lehigh hosts Delware (Feb. 20) and Mount St. Mary's (Feb. 21).
