BETHLEHEM, Pa. - For the third time this season and sixth time in his career, Lehigh men's basketball senior Tim Kempton has been named Patriot League Player of the Week, as announced on Monday. Kempton finished a monster week with 58 points and 27 rebounds, highlighted by a 31-point, 18-rebound effort in Saturday's 90-71 win at Mount St. Mary's.
Â
Kempton's week began at Stony Brook Tuesday when he posted 27 points and nine rebounds to help keep Lehigh close until the end. He scored 16 second-half points, which helped give the Mountain Hawks a chance to tie in the final seconds. Kempton's four made three-pointers easily shattered his previous career high.
Â
Kempton followed by setting career highs in points (31) and free throws made (12) while tying career highs in rebounds (18) and blocks (3) in a 90-71 win at Mount St. Mary's Saturday. Playing in his 100th career game, he scored 21 second-half points, the most points in a half by any Lehigh player since Kempton had 23 in the first half at Holy Cross on Jan. 17, 2015. Kempton had his fifth double-double of the season by halftime (10 points, 10 rebounds in the first half). He was also critical in the Mountain Hawks' breaking the Mount St. Mary's continued full-court press.
Â
After zero 30-point efforts in his first three seasons (91 games), Kempton has three in his first nine games of his senior campaign. With his 31 points on Saturday, Kempton moved from ninth to eighth in school history and 21st to 17th in Patriot League history for career scoring, currently owning 1,597 points. For the season, Kempton is averaging 23.0 points (ninth in the nation as of Sunday) and 10.3 rebounds (31st).
Â
The Mountain Hawks are in action on Monday night when they host Saint Francis (Pa.) at 7 p.m. Following final exams, Lehigh will then play its final nonleague game on Thursday, Dec. 22 when it hosts Cabrini at 7 p.m. The Mountain Hawks open Patriot League play on Dec. 30 at Army West Point.
