Lehigh Results/Stats Sheet

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – The last time the Lehigh men's cross country team visited Penn State on Sept. 10, the team finished in fourth place on a warm day at the Spiked Shoe Invitational, ahead of regionally ranked opponents such as No. 4 Penn State and No. 7 Saint Joseph's. The Mountain Hawks will be hoping for a similar performance on the same course this Friday when they race at the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regionals.

Lehigh finds itself ranked 12th in the latest USTFCCCA Mid-Atlantic poll, nine spots behind league champion Navy and one place ahead of Bucknell among the three Patriot League schools ranked in the Mid-Atlantic. Lehigh is coming off a fourth place finish at the Patriot League Championships on Oct. 29. Senior Alexander Fitzgerald (12th/25:19.6) and junior Patrick Reilly (14th/25:21.9) both earned Second Team All-Patriot League accolades for their finishes at the PLC. Freshmen Matt Kravitz (25:38.4) and Jeffrey Kirshenbaum (25:38.6), along with senior Ryan Cooney (25:40.0) finished 21st-through-23rd overall to round out the team's top five runners.

Defending regional champion Georgetown enters this year's regional as the top seed after capturing their second straight Big East title, followed by Ivy champion Penn and Navy in the top three. The meet will be one of nine regionals to take place on Friday throughout the country, with the top two teams from each automatically advancing to the NCAA Division I national championships, along with 13 at-large bids based on national results. After all the teams have been selected, an additional 38 individuals will be selected to the championships. The complete list of qualifying criteria can be found by clicking here.

"We haven't had to change too much," head coach Todd Etters said of adjustments since the Patriot League Championships. "I think the guys left the league championships pretty excited that they had another shot at racing."

The most notable difference from the league championships and all of the team's meets this season is that the regional course is 10 kilometers, slightly longer than the 8K courses that have made up most of the team's races throughout the season.

"I think 10K is a favorable distance for us," Etters said. "We ran well at Penn State earlier this year so we've got a lot of things looking favorable for us, but the bottom line is we have to be as mentally tough and really show the same grit and determination that we showed at the league championships."

All of Saturday's action from the Blue and White Golf Course in University Park will begin at noon with the women's 6K race, followed by the men's 10K run at 1 p.m. Check back to Lehighsports.com following the race for a complete recap and results.
