Mountain Hawks Fall 4-1 at Home to Army

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Army West Point scored less than 10 minutes into the game, and continued the momentum deep into the second half, downing the Lehigh men's soccer team 4-1 on Saturday evening at the Ulrich Sports Complex. Junior Doyle Tuvesson scored the Mountain Hawks' lone goal via a penalty kick in the 85th minute while freshman Will Smith made a career-high eight saves in goal.
With the win, Army improves to 6-4-1 overall and 3-1-1 in the Patriot League. Lehigh is now 4-7-1 overall and has a PL record of 1-3-0.
Army got on the scoreboard just under 10 minutes into the game as Keenan O'Shea played the ball into the box and Nick Williams finished inside the left post.
In the 14th minute, Smith kept the deficit, making a tremendous diving save to his right then batting the ball out of harm's way despite lying on the ground.
The Mountain Hawks began to gain momentum as the first half progressed, generating shots in the 16th, 17th, 26th and 36th minutes, but Lehigh's deficit remained one. One of the Mountain Hawks' most dangerous opportunities came in the final five minutes of the half as freshman Nolan Coulter centered to junior Jack Miskel, who couldn't connect on the header.
Army came the other way and immediately doubled its advantage just before halftime as Okheem Riley centered to Christian Clark, who found the open goal at the 43:36 mark.
The Black Knights took a 3-0 advantage early in the second half as Smith made a strong save on a Rex Epps shot from in close, but Epps converted the rebound at 48:34.
Smith kept Lehigh within three goals in the 62nd minute, diving to his right to make a sensational save and stop another opportunity from Epps. Minutes later, Tuvesson fired a pair of shots from a dangerous position inside the box. His first shot was blocked, then he unleashing a high shot following the rebound.
Army added a late goal off an initial save by Smith in the 82nd minute, but Tuvesson put home a penalty kick at the 84:40 mark to account for the 4-1 final.
Final shots were 19-9 in favor of the Black Knights while Army held a 7-5 edge in corner kicks.
Tonight's loss snaps a five-game winning streak for Lehigh at home against Army. The Mountain Hawks were 8-0-4 against Army at home since 1991. Army's last win in Bethlehem, Pa. was in 1979.
The Mountain Hawks return to action on next Saturday at Loyola. Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m. Lehigh will return home on October 22 to face Boston University.
