Men’s Swimming Captures League Win over Loyola

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Lehigh men's swimming and diving team turned out a strong performance in a 172-121 win at Jacobs Pool on Saturday over Loyola (Md.). The Brown and White got four wins from junior Jacob Moyar, three from Justin White and a pair from Jamal Willis and Justin Kostelnik.
Kostelnik's two victories came in the 200 yard butterfly (1:55.63) and the 200 backstroke (1:56.49). He also placed third in the 400 IM (4:17.54) and was part of the second place 400 medley relay team with Jimmy Davey, Jake Hassel and Willis.
Moyar outpaced the field in the 1,000 freestyle (9:41.87), the 100 fly (51.66) and the 400 IM. He also helped lead the 400 yard freestyle relay team to a win in the meet's final event, along with teammates Zach Tieke, Willis and White.
In addition to being on the winning 400 free relay team, White also tabbed victories in the 100 yard freestyle (46.84) and the 200 yard freestyle, touching the wall in 1:43.47. He also nabbed second place in the 50 free (21.31), coming in one hundredth of a second behind Willis, who won the race in 21.30.
Hassel and Davey also turned out big wins for the Mountain Hawks. Hassel captured first place in the 500 free with a top time of 4:49.46, in addition to a trio of second place performances in the 200 free (1:47.02), 200 fly (1:56.74), and on the 400 medley relay team (3:35.89). Davey touched the wall ahead of everyone in the 100 backstroke, edging out a pair of Loyola swimmers in 53.51 seconds.
Tieke had a strong day for Lehigh with a second place finish (47.62) in the 100 freestyle as part of a Lehigh sweep in the event, and a second place showing in the 100 butterfly (53.13). He also came in third in the 50 free, in addition to his work on the winning 400 freestyle relay team.
Ryan Morgan helped Lehigh finish one-two in the 1,000 freestyle, placing second behind Moyar, with a mark of 10:11.09. He also placed third in the 500 freestyle in 4:55.49.
The Mountain Hawks will return to Jacobs Pool next Saturday, January 23 at 10 a.m. to face Bucknell in their final home meet of the season.
