BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Lehigh men's soccer team will head to Manhattan Wednesday for a midweek matchup slated to begin at 7 p.m. The contest will serve as Lehigh's first road game of the season.
The Mountain Hawks are 1-1 on the young season after earning a 3-0 win over Fairleigh Dickinson in Lehigh's season-opening game Friday before dropping a 3-0 decision to Pitt Sunday. The Mountain Hawks captured the victory over Fairleigh Dickinson thanks to goals from freshmen Donovan Perayeff and Alex Greene and sophomore Doyle Tuvesson. Lehigh hung tough with Pitt for the first 69 minutes of Sunday's game before the Panthers rattled off three goals in six minutes to capture the 3-0 win Sunday.
Junior Jamie Luchini leads Lehigh with six shots this season, while Tuvesson has fired a team-best three shots on goal. Junior Jacob Gottwald has seen all the time in goal, making ten saves in two games with a 0.769 save percentage.
Wednesday's game will be the second of Manhattan's season as the Jaspers opened their 2015 campaign with 1-0 double-overtime loss to Temple Friday. Freshman keeper R.J. Noll made eight saves in his collegiate debut before Temple scored the game winner in the 107th minute. The Owls outshot Manhattan 23-6 for the contest and held a 13-2 shot edge after halftime. Lehigh and Manhattan most recently met in the 2014 season opener when the Mountain Hawks used a pair of first-half goals, one of which came from Luchini, and a strong defensive second half to capture a 2-1 win over the Jaspers. Lehigh is 3-0 all-time against Manhattan.
Following Wednesday's road game, the Mountain Hawks will return home Monday to host Cornell in a Labor Day contest scheduled to kick off at 7 p.m. from the Ulrich Sports Complex. Free video will be available on the Patriot League Network.
