
Lehigh men open Florida trip with 4-0 loss at Stetson

DELAND, Fla. – The Lehigh men's tennis team opened its five-match spring break trip to Florida with a 4-0 loss to Stetson Monday afternoon at the Mandy Stroll Tennis Center. In their first competitive matches outdoors this spring the Mountain Hawks struggled as the host Hatters swept in the first to four match format.
Lehigh falls to 6-3 with the loss, while Stetson improves to 6-5.
The Hatters claimed the doubles point with wins at the bottom two flights. Stetson's Simon Julin and Graham Ball defeated sophomore Graham Lehman and freshman Jack Petersen 8-2 at the No. 3 flight and the Hatters' No. 2 team of Nathan Debut and Chester Espie clinched the doubles point with an 8-3 win over senior Mitchell Petersen and sophomore Ethan Bogard.
Lehigh's top team of senior Ben Gilman and junior Jeremy Kochman were trailing 4-5 in their match, which did not finish once Stetson clinched the doubles point.
In singles play, Kochman suffered his first loss of the season, dropping a 6-3, 6-0 decision to Loic Blanco at the No. 2 flight. Stetson's lead grew to 3-0 as Espie won in straight sets over Bogard at the No. 2 flight. Ball clinched the match for the Hatters with a 6-4, 6-3 win over Mitchell Petersen at No. 4 singles.
Jack Petersen had the strongest performance in singles, winning the first set against Julin at No. 3 singles. The match was headed to a third set when Stetson clinched.
The Mountain Hawks will continue their spring break trip with two matches on Tuesday as Lehigh returns to Orlando to face Creighton at 11:30 a.m. and St. Cloud State at 7 p.m.
