
Lehigh downs St. Cloud State to split Tuesday matches

ORLANDO, Fla. – On the second day of its spring break trip the Lehigh men's tennis split a pair of matches Tuesday. The day began with a 6-1 loss to Creighton, but the Mountain Hawks rebounded at night to post a 6-3 win over St. Cloud State.
With the split, Lehigh's record stands at 7-4.
Lehigh suffered its second straight defeat in its first match of the day. Creighton won the doubles point by taking tight matches at the bottom two flights.
The Blue Jays went on to win five of the six singles matches. Lehigh's freshmen hung tough. Jack Petersen posted Lehigh's only point against Creighton with a 7-6, 6-2 win over Alex Koca at the No.3 flight. Dylan Karchere-Sun won a set at the No. 6 flight but fell to Aaron Chalstrom in a ten point tiebreak.
Lehigh's match against St. Cloud State began with Jack Petersen and sophomore Graham Lehman posting a win at No. 3 doubles. The Huskies answered with wins at the top two flights to go in front 2-1 heading into singles play.
The match was played to nine points. With Lehigh trailing 2-1 after doubles, the Mountain Hawks responded by winning five of the six singles matches.
Sophomore Ethan Bogard started the run with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Nate Cherry at the No. 5 flight. Senior Mitchell Petersen put Lehigh in front with a straight-set win at No. 4 singles, but St. Cloud State evened the match 3-3 with a win at the top flight.
A win from sophomore Jeremy Kochman at No. 2 singles gave Lehigh the lead for good, and Karchere-Sun clinched the match by winning a ten point tiebreak at the No. 6 flight. Jack Petersen closed the match with a lengthy 6-7, 7-6, 10-8 victory for his second win of the day.
Lehigh will close out its spring break trip with matches against Valparaiso (8 a.m.) and Quinnipiac (4:30 p.m.) on Wednesday.
