Yozzo garners second Patriot League Rookie of the Week award

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – For the second time in three weeks, Lehigh freshman outfielder Nicole Yozzo has been recognized as Patriot League Rookie of the Week, the league announced Monday. Yozzo hit safely in seven of Lehigh's final eight games on its spring break trip to Florida with six stolen bases and five runs scored.
Lehigh went 10-2 on its eight day trip to Florida capped by a 4-0 showing at the USF Michele Smith Spring Break Tournament over the weekend to improve to 13-3 on the season.
Yozzo was 12-for-27 (.444) at the plate over Lehigh's final eight games in Florida. Lehigh's leadoff hitter went 2-for-3 with a RBI and a stolen base in the Mountain Hawks' 3-1 win over Georgetown on Wednesday. Yozzo capped her weekend with a strong day, going 3-for-4 with two runs scored, a run batted in, and two stolen bases in Lehigh's 6-2 win over Florida A&M. Later in the day, she singled with two outs in the seventh inning to keep the game going and eventually scored the tying run as the Mountain Hawks rallied for a 6-5 win over UMass-Lowell.
For the season, Yozzo boasts a team-best .518 batting average (29-for-56). She leads Lehigh with nine stolen bases and 13 runs scored.
Also on Monday, sophomore pitcher Christine Campbell received an honorable mention from the league. Campbell allowed just two earned runs over 24 innings spanning five appearances last week. She played a role in five of Lehigh's six victories going 3-0 with two saves in the pitcher's circle. Campbell matched a career high with eight strikeouts against UMass-Lowell on Saturday.
The Mountain Hawks were slated to host Penn in their home opener Wednesday but due to field conditions on Lehigh's Goodman Campus the doubleheader has been moved to Philadelphia, where the Quakers will host the Mountain Hawks beginning at 3 p.m.
The Penn doubleheader will be Lehigh's final tune-up before the Mountain Hawks open Patriot League play this weekend with three games against defending league champion Boston University.
