Lehigh downs Saint Francis (Pa.) 6-1 to complete 2-0 weekend

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Lehigh men's tennis team completed a 2-0 weekend with a 6-1 victory over Saint Francis (Pa.) Sunday inside the Lewis Tennis Center. The Mountain Hawks lost the top flight matches in both singles and doubles but won the other two doubles matches and the remaining five singles matches to improve to 3-1 on the season.
In doubles play, senior Mitchell Petersen and sophomore Ethan Bogard started things off with a 6-2 win over Plamen Avuski and Lawson Barter at the No. 3 flight. Senior Ben Gilman and Jeremy Kochman followed with a 6-3 win over Washi Gervais and Rodrigo Tico to clinch the doubles point. The Red Flash captured a win at the top flight to avoid the Lehigh sweep.
With freshman Jack Petersen only playing doubles on Sunday, head coach Wouter Hendrix bumped everyone in his lineup up one spot. Kochman moved up to No. 3 singles and defeated Avuski 6-0, 6-2. Mitchell Petersen moved into Jack's No. 2 spot and downed Chris Jimenez 6-2, 6-2 to put Lehigh up 3-0.
Saint Francis avoided the singles sweep as Gervais won 7-5, 6-4 over Gilman at the top flight before sophomore Colin Nardella clinched the match with a 6-3, 7-6 win over Eli Cerdan at the No. 4 flight.
Sophomores Ethan Bogard and Tyler Hansen closed out the match with straight set wins at the fifth and sixth flights.
Lehigh will host two more matches next weekend as the Mountain Hawks will face Stony Brook Friday at 3 p.m. and Richmond Saturday at 1 p.m. inside the Lewis Tennis Center.
