BETHLEHEM, Pa. - After a strong performance last weekend versus Drexel and Saint Francis (Pa.), the Lehigh men's tennis team will gear up for another two-match weekend as the Mountain Hawks will host Stony Brook Friday afternoon and Richmond on Saturday.
Â
The Mountain Hawks improved to 3-1 after defeating Drexel 5-2 and Saint Francis (Pa.) 6-1 last weekend. Jeremy Kochman, a junior from Brooklyn, N.Y., impressed in both singles and doubles play against Drexel, as he won at No. 2 doubles and earned the clinching point for Lehigh at the No. 4 singles flight. The Mountain Hawks fought back from dropping points at doubles by winning five out of six singles matches on their way to victory over the Dragons.
Â
Lehigh followed up its victory against the Drexel with another the next day against the Red Flash. Although the Mountain Hawks lost top flight matches in singles and doubles play, Lehigh was able to win the remaining matches and secure a victory. The doubles tandem of Kochman and senior Ben Gilman improved to 3-0 on the season and sophomore Colin Nardella was able to clinch the match at the No. 4 singles flight.
Â
Stony Brook comes in at 1-1 on the season and is coming off a 4-2 loss to Army on Sunday. The day before, the Seawolves dominated Connecticut in a 7-0 victory.
Â
Richmond has had an up and down start to the season as its record currently sits at 2-3. The Spiders split two matches on Sunday after losing to Old Dominion 6-1 but defeating Division III program Christopher Newport 6-1 just hours later. Richmond beat Delaware and lost to Belmont at the VCU 4+1 and also dropped a 5-2 match against Patriot League member Navy. The Spiders will visit Saint Joseph's on Friday before Saturday's trip to Lehigh.
Â
The Mountain Hawks hosted Stony Brook last season and dropped a tough match by the score of 4-3. Lehigh last faced Richmond in 2011 and picked up a 6-1 home victory.
Â
Friday's Stony Brook match will begin at 3 p.m. while Saturday's match with Richmond is slated for a 1 p.m. start. Both matches will be held in Lehigh's Lewis Tennis Center.
