BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Lehigh men's tennis team dropped the doubles point in a tiebreaker at the No. 3 flight but the Mountain Hawks rallied in singles, winning five matches, including three three-set matches to down Drexel 5-2 Saturday inside the Lewis Tennis Center. Senior Ben Gilman and junior Jeremy Kochman won at No. 2 doubles and then both posted three-set singles wins, with Kochman earning the clinching point at the No. 4 flight.

The win ups Lehigh's record to 2-1 while Drexel falls to 4-2 in the spring season.

The doubles point was tightly contested with Drexel winning at No. 1 doubles and Gilman and Kochman beating Dan Koehler and Kashyap Ashok 6-4. The first point of the match came down to a tiebreak at the third flight and Drexel's Badr Ouabdelmoumen and Daniel Hansen defeating senior Mitchell Petersen and sophomore Ethan Bogard 9-7 in the tiebreak to give the visiting Dragons a 1-0 lead.

Freshman Jack Petersen jump started Lehigh in singles play with his first varsity singles win, a 6-2, 6-4 triumph over Ashok at the No. 2 flight. The other three of the top four flights required three sets. Mitchell Petersen won the first set against Alex Fioravante at No. 3 singles and after dropping the second set captured the third 6-4 to give Lehigh a 2-1 advantage.

Gilman lost his first set to Ouabdelmoumen at the top flight and was trailing in the second but rallied to win the second set 6-4 and prevailed 6-3 in the third to move the Mountain Hawks within a point of clinching. At the No. 4 flight, Kochman outlasted Xabier Saavedra in a first set tiebreak and after dropping the second set won the third set 6-3 to clinch the match for the Mountain Hawks.

Drexel got a straight-set win from Hamza Laalej over sophomore Colin Nardella at the No. 5 flight before Bogard closed the match with a 7-5, 6-4 win over Koehler at No. 6 singles.

The Mountain Hawks will be back on the court Sunday morning when they host Saint Francis (Pa.) at 10 a.m.
