Schedule changes for softball have Mountain Hawks opening Friday in Florida

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The harsh winter weather that has plagued the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic regions has forced the Lehigh softball team to tweak its schedule. The Mountain Hawks were slated to play in the Patriot Classic in Fairfax, Va., beginning Friday, but that tournament has been cancelled due to inclement weather and unplayable field conditions.
Instead, Lehigh will head to Florida to open its season with five games in three days at the Diamond 9 Citrus Classic in Orlando.
Weather permitting, the Mountain Hawks will finally open their season on Friday when they take on Omaha at 11 a.m. from ESPN's Wide World of Sports Complex. Lehigh will also face Big Ten member Indiana at 3:30 p.m. Friday.
On Saturday, Lehigh will face two tough tests from power conference foes. The Mountain Hawks will face Big Ten newcomer Maryland at 1:15 p.m. and 23rd-ranked Notre Dame out of the ACC at 5:45.
Lehigh will close out the Citrus Classic with a single game against Saint Francis (Pa.) Sunday at 10 a.m.
The Mountain Hawks were originally scheduled to open their season last weekend at the Tar Heel Invitational in North Carolina, but that tournament was cancelled early last week.
