Lehigh wraps up regular season with home matches against Holy Cross and Army West Point

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Lehigh volleyball team returns to Leeman-Turner Arena at Grace Hall this weekend to host Holy Cross Friday and Army West Point Saturday in the final two matches of the regular season. Friday's match will serve as Lehigh's annual Dig Pink match and first serve is set for 7 p.m. The five Mountain Hawk seniors will be honored prior to Saturday's match on Senior Day and first serve is slated for 4 p.m. Free video of Saturday's match will be available on the Patriot League Network.
All proceeds from Friday's Dig Pink match will be donated to the Side-Out Foundation, which was established in 2004 to unite volleyball players and coaches and have them work toward the common goal of furthering breast cancer awareness, education and patient services. Fans can help support the fight against breast cancer by making a donation in two ways. A flat donation can be made or fans can make a pledge for each dig recorded by the team at the match. The Mountain Hawks head into this weekend with a 17-12 overall record and 9-5 mark in league play. Lehigh has already secured a spot in the Patriot League Tournament and this weekend's results will determine whether the Mountain Hawks will be the No. 3 or No. 4 seed. American (15-0 PL) has locked in the top seed and will host the Patriot League Tournament in Bender Arena, while Army (12-2 PL) will hold down the No. 2 seed. The Mountain Hawks have won three of their last four matches, with the most recent result being a straight-set loss at first-place American last Friday.
Senior Leah Turner leads the Lehigh offense with 344 kills, while classmate Stephanie Slater follows with 290. Senior Amy Matula has dished a team-best 772 assists and junior Mariah Brantley has registered a squad-high 342 digs. Senior Ana Vrhel leads the team with 109 blocks and 37 service aces.
Holy Cross carries a 4-10 Patriot League record and 7-20 overall mark into the final weekend of its season. Two of the Crusaders' four league wins came against Lafayette (3-0, 3-2), while the others were over Navy (3-2) and Loyola (3-0). Holy Cross fell 3-1 at Navy in its most recent action. Mandy Sifferlen leads the Crusaders with 388 kills and 34 service aces. Katie McKernan has dished a team-best 453 assists and M.C. Magner has registered a squad-high 374 digs. Holy Cross has hit .154 as a team this season compared to its opponents' average of .215.
The Mountain Hawks earned a hard-fought 3-0 (25-17, 25-23, 25-20) victory at Holy Cross in the season's first meeting on Oct. 17. Slater paced the Lehigh offense with 14 kills and a .387 hitting percentage, while Vrhel followed with nine kills and a clip of .350. Matula dished 25 assists to go along with nine digs, while freshman Emily Develle registered a team-best 22 digs. Lehigh hit .271 as a team and limited the Crusaders to a clip of .126.
Army carries a 12-2 Patriot League mark and 20-7 overall record into this weekend's action. The Black Knights will travel to Bucknell Friday night before coming to Bethlehem Saturday. Army's only two league losses were against American. The Black Knights captured a pair of straight-set wins at Navy and Lafayette last weekend. Carolyn Bockrath leads the team with 269 kills and a league-best .416 hitting percentage. Vanessa Edwards leads the Patriot League with 10.85 assists per set, while Shannell Chong holds down the top spot on the league's digs leaderboard with an average of 4.56 digs per set. The Black Knights have hit .256 as a team this season compared to their opponents' average of .186.

The Black Knights hit .330 for the match and limited Lehigh to a clip of .150.
Following this weekend's matches, Lehigh will head to Washington, D.C. next weekend for the Patriot League Tournament at American. The host Eagles will take on the No. 4 seed at 1 p.m. Saturday and No. 2 Army will face the No. 3 seed at 4 p.m. in the semifinals. The semifinal winners will advance to Sunday's championship match at 1 p.m.
