Mountain Hawks fall 3-1 at Navy

10/7/2015 9:31:00 PM | Men's Soccer

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The Lehigh men's soccer team found itself down 3-0 at Navy Wednesday night before the Mountain Hawks were able to get on the board in the 74th minute on a goal from freshman Mark Forrest, but it wasn't enough as Lehigh fell 3-1. Lehigh falls to 1-2 in league play and 6-4-1 overall with the loss, while Navy improves to 2-0 in the Patriot League and 5-4-1 overall.

"It's tough to go on the road and go down three goals and fight your way back into the game," said head coach Dean Koski. "We went down 1-0 early, but the goal right before halftime was the back breaker. We weren't good on either side of the ball and it was a frustrating game. We have a lot of Patriot League games left, and we'll have to regroup and bounce back from this one."

Navy tallied the first three shots of the game before senior Jamie Luchini fired Lehigh's first attempt in the 14th minute, but Mids keeper Jackson Morgan stepped up to make the stop. The Mountain Hawks peppered Navy with three shots and a corner kick over the next 15 minutes, but it was the Mids who were able to find the back of the net first in the 29th minute when Matt McCraith sent a ball past Lehigh sophomore keeper Joe Bogan to give Navy a 1-0 lead. The Mids then added an insurance goal just before halftime when Jamie Dubyoski scored in the 45th minute to give Navy a 2-0 advantage.

Luchini fired the first shot of the second half in the 50th minute, but Morgan was there once again. The Mids then made it 3-0 in the 59th minute thanks to a free-kick goal from Daniel Zaremba. A scuffle around the net in the 71st minute provided Lehigh with its best scoring chance so far as three different Mountain Hawks got off shots on goal, but Morgan and the Navy defense stood tall.

Lehigh kept up the pressure and Forrest was able to get behind the Navy defense and fire a ball into the far post in the 74th minute to put Lehigh on the board. The Mountain Hawks were able to get off three shots and three corner kicks the rest of the way, but it was too little, too late as the Mids earned the 3-1 win.

Bogan finished the game with four saves compared to Morgan's seven. Navy held a slim 17-15 shot advantage.

Next up, the Mountain Hawks head to Army West Point Sunday for a 2 p.m. contest. Free video will be available on the Patriot League Network.
