Lehigh hosts Colgate in Saturday night showdown

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Lehigh men's soccer team gets back to Patriot League play Saturday evening when the Mountain Hawks welcome Colgate to the Ulrich Sports Complex at 7 p.m. The Summit Series game tickets will cost $5 for general admission and all Lehigh students, faculty and staff will receive free admission with a Lehigh ID.
Lehigh carries a 5-3-1 overall record and 0-1 league mark into Saturday's contest. The Mountain Hawks lost a 1-0 battle to Holy Cross last Saturday in the league opener, but bounced back nicely Tuesday with a 3-0 victory over non-league foe Fordham. Freshman Mark Forrest registered a hat trick while the Mountain Hawk defense secured its fifth shutout of the season to capture the 3-0 win. Forrest scored in the 12th, 65th and 83rd minutes. It marked the first time a Lehigh player has recorded a hat trick since Oct. 6, 2007 when Kyle Evans scored three goals in a 3-0 home victory over Navy. Freshman Matt Morana and sophomore Doyle Tuvesson each tallied an assist.
After Tuesday's performance, Forrest now leads the team with 11 points behind four goals and three assists. Senior Jamie Luchini follows with three goals and three assists, good for nine points. Tuvesson and freshman Alex Greene have scored two goals apiece. Sophomore keeper Joe Bogan leads the Patriot League with 36 saves to go along with four clean sheets, a .857 save percentage and a 0.82 goals against average.
Colgate is 4-3-1 this season and 1-0 in Patriot League play after capturing a 2-1 upset win over then-nineteenth ranked American last Saturday. Ethan Kutler scored both of the Raiders' goals in the second half to lead Colgate to the victory and earn Patriot League Offensive Player of the Week laurels. Colgate dropped a 2-0 decision to Syracuse in its most recent action Tuesday.
Kutler leads the team with 11 points behind four goals and three assists. Troy Moo Penn has netted two goals, while four other Raiders have tallied one apiece. Ricky Brown has seen all the action in goal, tallying 31 saves, a .756 save percentage and a 1.21 GAA.
The Mountain Hawks earned a 3-1 win over the Raiders in last season's meeting in Hamilton, N.Y. The victory clinched Lehigh's spot in the Patriot League Tournament. Current seniors Luchini, Austin Decker and Ryan Bertrando scored Lehigh's goals. Colgate leads the all-time series 14-10-6.
Following Saturday's game, Lehigh heads to Navy next Wednesday (7 p.m.) before traveling to Army West Point Sunday (2 p.m.).
