BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Following a tightly-contested road defeat at Bucknell, the Lehigh field hockey team returns home for a pair of games this weekend. The Mountain Hawks begin by hosting archrival Lafayette on Saturday at 12 p.m. before welcoming Siena on Sunday at 12 p.m.

Lehigh is eying its first Patriot League win after coming ever so close in each of its first two league games. The Mountain Hawks took perennial power American to overtime in their opener before holding a one-goal lead until midway through the second half at Bucknell last Saturday. Freshman Teresa Carotenuto scored both of Lehigh's goals to help the Mountain Hawks take a 2-1 lead at the 19:31 mark, which stood until the 47-minute mark when the Bison tied the score at two, on their way to a 4-2 victory.

Junior goalkeeper Julia Ward finished with six saves against Bucknell while senior Erin Ricker and junior Janelle High each tallied defensive saves. After a strong first half, the Mountain Hawks struggled to muster much offense in the second. Carotenuto was honored on Monday with Patriot League Rookie of the Week laurels. She now leads the Mountain Hawks in both goals (3) and is second on the team in points (6) this season. Junior Gabby Tofig leads the way with seven points behind two goals and a team-leading three assists.

Lafayette is 5-5, but has lost four straight games after beginning the season 5-1. Most recently, the Leopards lost to Drexel on Monday, 3-2 after dropping a 3-1 final to Albany last weekend. Lafayette is 0-1 in Patriot League play, a 3-1 loss at Boston University. The Leopards began the season strongly, which included a 3-2 win over Ball State and dominant 9-1 victory over Siena. Amanda Magadan leads the team in scoring, posting 15 points behind six goals and three assists. Katie Birle is next with 12 points, including a team-leading six goals, while Ami Turner has nine points (three goals, three assists). Katelyn Arnold has started all 10 games, owning a 2.60 GAA and .644 save percentage.

Lafayette leads the all-time series, 37-12-3 as the Mountain Hawks are eying their first win over the Leopards since 2005. Last season, Lehigh scored first at Lafayette behind a Tofig goal just over one minute into the game, but the Leopards responded for a 5-1 victory.

Siena enters the weekend with a 1-8 record, defeating Colgate 2-0 in the third game of the season. Most recently, the Saints lost at Villanova (5-0) and Georgetown (2-0) last weekend. Sage Stebbins leads Siena in scoring with two goals and is tied for the team lead with four points. Marie Aloi also owns four points behind one goal and two assists. Two others have scored a goal while two have dished an assist. Brittany Onesto owns a defensive save while Mary Drabich has a 4.06 GAA and .556 save percentage.

The Mountain Hawks are 13-0 all-time against Siena with the last meeting coming in 2011, a 3-2 Lehigh victory. The sides first met in 1993, a 4-2 Mountain Hawks' win.

Following the weekend, Lehigh will return home next Friday (Oct. 9) to host #12 Liberty at 6 p.m.
