BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Following 50 points and 26 rebounds over two games last week, Lehigh men's basketball sophomore Tim Kempton has been named Patriot League Player of the Week, as announced on Monday. The weekly award marked Kempton's fifth of his career and first Player of the Week honor after garnering Rookie of the Week four times last season.
Â
Kempton began the week by tallying 24 points at American on Wednesday, to go with a season-high tying 13 rebounds. He shot 10-of-17 from the field and 4-of-5 from the free throw line.
Â
The Scottsdale, Arizona native went on to score a career-high 26 points against Holy Cross Saturday, 23 coming in the first half, as the Mountain Hawks topped the Crusaders 69-64. Kempton grabbed 13 rebounds for a second straight game while shooting 9-of-11 from the field and adding eight made free throws and a blocked shot as well.
Â
The back-to-back double-doubles give Kempton nine this season and 15 in his career. Kempton currently leads the Mountain Hawks in both scoring (14.8 points per game) and rebounding (8.9 per game). The rebounding total leads the Patriot League. He's averaging nearly a double-double in league play (18.3 points and 9.8 boards).
Â
Lehigh will return to action on Wednesday when the Mountain Hawks host Navy at 7 p.m. It's the team's Coaches vs. Cancer Suits and Sneakers Awareness Game as Lehigh supports the fight against cancer.
