BALTIMORE - The Lehigh men's swimming and diving team used an all-around team effort to win 10 of 16 events on its way to a 169-129 win over Loyola on Saturday. Sophomore Jacob Moyar led the way with a pair of individual wins, in the 1,000 yard freestyle and 200 yard butterfly. Classmate Justin White also won two events, the 100 and 200 yard freestyle.
"It was a great effort today by both our men's and women's teams," said head coach Rob Herb. "The sprinters made their mark as they get ready for the end of the year. There were several double winners, but it was a team-first mentality that earned the win. Our team continues to be tough down the stretch and compete with their hearts."
Moyar finished the 1,000 yard freestyle in a time of 9:50.72 to set the tone for a strong afternoon. The first three finishers in the 200 yard butterfly were Mountain Hawks, led by Moyer's time of 1:55.47.
White won the 200 yard freestyle in 1:43.61 as the Mountain Hawks had four of the top five finishers. White also won the 100 yard freestyle in 47.30 seconds.
Other individual winners included sophomore Jamal Willis (50 yard freestyle in 20.84 seconds), sophomore Kevin Huntley (200 yard breaststroke in 2:09.41), senior Danny Bennett (500 yard freestyle in 4:47.83), junior Jake Hassel 100 yard butterfly in 51.49 seconds) and senior Dan Bateman (228.60 points in three-meter diving).
The team of White, freshman Zach Tieke, senior Owen Dunbar and sophomore Jamal Willis won the 400 yard freestyle in 3:11.89.
The Mountain Hawks return to action on Sunday when they travel to NJIT to face the Highlanders. The meet is set to begin at 2 p.m.
