Lehigh hosts No. 14 American Saturday to open Patriot League play

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Lehigh men's soccer team begins Patriot League play Saturday at 7 p.m. when the Mountain Hawks welcome No. 14 American to the Ulrich Sports Complex. The contest can be viewed free of charge on the Patriot League Network.
General Admission tickets will cost $5 and students, faculty and staff will receive free admission with a Lehigh ID. The Goodman Bus Service will depart the Dialogue Center on Taylor Street 45 and 15 minutes prior to game time to transport students to the game and return post-game.
Lehigh enters Saturday's league opener with a 4-3-0 overall record and is coming off a 1-0 overtime loss to Villanova on Tuesday night. The teams played to a scoreless draw through 90 minutes before the Wildcats drew a foul in Lehigh's 18-yard box eight minutes into overtime and netted the game-winner on a penalty kick. Senior keeper Ciaran Nugent made several key saves to send the contest to overtime and finished with five stops.
Junior Jamie Luchini leads Lehigh with three goals so far this season, while freshman Doyle Tuvesson follows with two. Junior Austin Decker and senior Ali Famili have also scored goals this season. Nugent, who is tied for 12th in the nation in career shutouts among active Division I players, has made 23 saves so far this season and holds a 0.98 GAA and 79.3 save percentage.
The Eagles carry a 6-1-1 record into Saturday's matchup and have had much success so far this season. After starting the season 1-1, American took down top-ranked UCLA 2-1 in overtime to kick off a five-game win streak and surge into the national rankings. The Eagles are coming off a 1-1 double overtime draw to Hartford on Tuesday. The Hawks struck first, but senior Jordan Manley's first career goal helped American earn a point and move the Eagles' undefeated streak to six games.
Sophomores Joe Iraola and Dale Ludwig lead American in goals with four and three, respectively. Senior Stephen Hauschild has also been a key offensive piece for the Eagles with two goals this season. Iraola and Ludwig are tied for the team-lead with eight points apiece. Junior keeper Dylan Hobert has seen all of the time between the pipes this season and holds a 0.60 GAA and .821 save percentage to go along with 23 saves.
American has won the last four meetings between the squads and holds a 12-4-4 all-time advantage.
Following Saturday's game, Lehigh heads to Bucknell Saturday Oct. 4 at 7 p.m. before traveling to Lafayette on Wednesday Oct. 8.
