2014-15 Schedule

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Lehigh women's basketball head coach Sue Troyan announced the 2014-15 schedule Wednesday, which is highlighted by 12 home games in Stabler Arena and a trip to Arizona State.

The Mountain Hawks will play a number of formidable opponents in Troyan's 20th season with the program. Lehigh will face four teams that made 2014 NCAA Tournament appearances and three teams that appeared in the WNIT.

"I think our non-league schedule will be a challenging one, most particularly because we have a limited number of home non-league games on our schedule," explained Troyan. "This can be to our advantage in terms of preparing for league play.  We will be playing away for a good portion of these games and this should allow our team to learn how to win on the road.  Ultimately, if we want to contend for a league championship, you not only have to protect your home court and win home games, but you also must be able to win on the road."

The 2014-15 campaign tips off on Saturday November 15 when Lehigh travels to Monmouth for a 7 p.m. contest.

The Mountain Hawks make their home debut on Monday November 17 when Lehigh welcomes East Stroudsburg to Stabler Arena for a 7 p.m. tipoff. Following a three-game road trip to NJIT, Saint Peter's and Sacred Heart, the Mountain Hawks will return home to host Hampton on Tuesday December 2 for the fifth-annual Education Day. Hampton won the MEAC Championship a season ago to make a NCAA Tournament appearance and finish the season with an impressive 28-5 record.

"Education Day is always the most exciting game for our team because they get to play in front of the largest home crowd of the season and a packed house," said Troyan. "The kids and fans are awesome and it really is a spirited atmosphere and crowd to play in front of.  As importantly, it's an opportunity for Lehigh to showcase itself as an institution and a place that cares passionately about providing a great educational opportunity for the youth in our community."

Lehigh then travels to Philadelphia Thursday December 4 to take on a Saint Joseph's team that made its fifth-straight postseason appearance in 2013-14. Following a 16-day break for final exams, the Mountain Hawks head to Arizona to compete in the Arizona State Classic on December 20 and 21. Lehigh will play a game each day against either the host Sun Devils, Northwestern or Eastern Illinois.

"The competition level we will see at the Arizona State tournament will be top notch, and I believe it's always good to challenge the program to compete with teams that are at an elite level," said Troyan. "It allows you to see where you are relative to the competition and it also allows you to see where you aspire to be.  The trip also allows the families of our out of region players to be able to travel to a convenient location to watch the team and their daughters compete."

Following a week off for the holidays, Lehigh returns home to Stabler Arena Sunday December 28 to close out non-league play against Duquesne, a team that made a WNIT appearance a season ago.

The Mountain Hawks open Patriot League play on New Year's Eve at 2 p.m. at Colgate.  The Patriot League home opener will be played on Saturday January 3 against Boston University. Lehigh will also host defending league champion Army (January 7), American (January 14), Lafayette (January 24), Bucknell (January 28), Loyola (February 7), Holy Cross (February 14), Navy (February 18) and Colgate (February 28).

Lehigh's Valentine's Day contest against Holy Cross will be this season's Play 4Kay game, while the February 28 game against Colgate will mark the end of the regular season.

The Patriot League Tournament is slated for March 3-14 and the higher seeded teams will serve as hosts.

"Last year the Patriot League ranked 11th overall as a conference (out of 32 conferences)," explained Troyan. "I think this speaks volumes about the growth of our league, the strength of the coaching in it, and the level of top-notch recruits that the league has been able to attract over the past 4-5 years.  There were some great players that graduated in our league last year, but there are also some great young players who are ready to step up and fill those voids.  I think the league is only going to get stronger, and the addition of Boston University and Loyola has certainly added to its overall strength."

Lehigh looks to improve upon last season's 13-18 campaign. The Mountain Hawks beat Colgate in the opening round of the Patriot League Tournament before falling to regular-season champion Navy in the quarterfinals.

All Lehigh home games will be streamed for free live on the Patriot League Network. In addition, all away league games will also be broadcast live through the network.
