Lehigh placed a league-best seven student-athletes on the All-Patriot League teams and won four of the five major awards. Sophomore Morgan Decker earned her second straight Player of the Year honor, while junior Emily Bausher was named Pitcher of the Year for the first time. New this year, the coaches added a Defensive Player of the Year award, which went to sophomore second baseman Alexis Watanabe, while head coach Fran Troyan was named Coach of the Year for the sixth time in his career and the third straight year. Six of Lehigh's seven All-League selections earned first team honors, with Bausher and Cassie Waggy earning All-League distinction for the third consecutive season.
The Mountain Hawks own three win streaks of five games or longer in 2014, highlighted by a 13-game streak that began March 15 in Delaware and ended in the second game of a doubleheader at Boston University on April 5. The streak fell one win shy of matching Lehigh's Patriot League record set last year but improved the Mountain Hawks' record from 4-10 to 17-10 in less than a month. Lehigh enters the Patriot League Tournament having won its last six games.
Kaufman Field has been kind to the Mountain Hawks in 2014, as Lehigh has posted a 13-2 record that includes a 9-0 home record against league opponents. Lehigh is hitting .364 as a team at home and has outscored its opponents 105-44 in 15 games. Sophomore Morgan Decker leads the Mountain Hawks with a .525 batting average at home to go along with four home runs and 18 RBI. Not far behind is freshman Vicky Lattanzio, who has hit .472 with 13 RBI in 14 home games. Junior Emily Bausher has been Lehigh's top pitcher at home, going 6-0 with a 1.58 ERA. Kaufman Field has hosted ten of the last 12 Patriot League Tournaments, with Lehigh going 27-10 in those games. The Mountain Hawks have won six Patriot League titles on their home field (2004, 2005, 2006, 2008, 2009, 2012).
Lehigh and Army will open the tournament in Thursday's first game. The Mountain Hawks swept three games from the Black Knights at West Point, N.Y. last weekend to clinch the regular season title. Lehigh held off Army in a tightly-contested 5-3 game in the series opener but went on to outscore the Black Knights 22-4 in the three-game sweep.
Morgan Decker led the Mountain Hawks going 6-for-9 with a .750 on base percentage in the series. Emily Bausher had five hits and four RBI en route to being named Patriot League Player of the Week, while freshman Vicky Lattanzio had seven RBI over the three games and was named Rookie of the Week.
The defending Patriot League Tournament champions, Army comes in at 22-26 overall and 9-9 in Patriot League play. The Black Knights had an outside shot at the league's regular season title but were eliminated from title contention following the game one loss to Lehigh last Saturday. Third baseman Kasey McCravey leads the Black Knights with a .392 average, seven home runs and 43 RBI. Senior centerfielder Amanda Nguyen was a thorn in Lehigh's side, going 6-for-10 in the three games at West Point. Nguyen has 59 hits, 35 runs scored and 28 stolen bases.
In the pitcher's circle for Army, Caroline Smith earned All-League honors and tops the team in innings pitched, but Smith did not pitch against Lehigh. Fellow freshman Kristen West threw 9.2 of the 18 innings played and tops the Black Knights with a 2.96 ERA.
Lehigh leads the all-time series versus Army 79-32. The two teams have met ten times already over the last two seasons, with the Mountain Hawks holding a 7-3 edge. Last year Lehigh won the regular season series 3-1 and defeated Army 8-0 in game three of the Patriot League Tournament, but the Black Knights rallied on the tournament's final day to blank the Mountain Hawks twice and deny Lehigh a third straight league title.
Thursday's other first round game matches No. 2 seed Boston University against No. 3 seed Bucknell. The Terriers are 32-19 overall and were the only team to defeat Lehigh in a Patriot League series this season. Bucknell is 21-24. Boston University won two of three games from Bucknell last weekend.

Games three, four and five are slated for Friday, beginning at 10:35 a.m., with the winner's bracket game between the winners of Thursday's contests. The championship round featuring game six and, if necessary, game seven is set for noon on Saturday.
