Mountain Hawks third after day one of PLC

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The Lehigh men's track and field team finished the first day of the outdoor Patriot League Championships in third place at Navy's Ingram Track. The Mountain Hawks have secured 32 team points and trail first-place Navy (52) and second-place Bucknell (41).
"The guys are in really great shape," said head coach Matt Utesch. "I'm very impressed with the long jumpers and everyone did a great job. I feel good about where we are headed into tomorrow."
Junior Julian Copeland took second place in the long jump with a new personal best leap of 7.02m, while freshman Daniel Boardman (6.95m) finished right behind in third. Junior Derek Gaul took fifth place in the event with a mark of 6.90m as the three men combined to give Lehigh 18 team points.
Junior Ryan Mahalsky (31:51.06) took fourth place in the 10,000 meter run to begin the day, while senior Ryan Knouse finished right behind in fifth (31:55.78). The two combined to secure nine team points.
Senior Martin Otieno finished eighth in the 100 meter dash with a time of 10.97 seconds to qualify for Saturday's finals. Otieno also took sixth in the 200 meter dash prelims to qualify for the finals after crossing the line in 21.99 seconds.
The 4x800 meter relay team of Christopher Watson, Sebastian Nicewicz, Nicholas Molloy and Kenneth Wilkinson finished sixth with a time of 7:46.78 to grab three team points.
Freshman Anthony Galantini scored points for Lehigh in the javelin throw with a toss of 58.09m that was good for seventh place.
Senior Ryan Paquin currently sits in second place in the decathlon. Only five of the decathlon events have finished.
The Patriot League Championships conclude Saturday at Navy. Action is set to begin at 9 a.m.
