HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. – The Lehigh softball team saw its five game winning streak come to an end as the Hofstra Pride swept a doubleheader from the Mountain Hawks Wednesday night at the Hofstra Softball Stadium. The Pride belted three home runs in an 11-3, six-inning win in the opener, while Morgan Lashley fanned 14 as Hofstra captured the nightcap 8-1.

Sophomore Morgan Decker went 3-for-6 in the doubleheader with her eight home run of the season to lead the Mountain Hawks, who fall to 24-17 on the season. Hofstra, a perennial power in the Colonial Athletic Association, improves to 28-11.

With reigning Patriot League Pitcher of the Week Emily Bausher unavailable in the circle, Hofstra totaled 22 hits in the doubleheader against Lehigh's other three pitchers.

Game one was scoreless through two and a half innings before the home team struck for six runs against freshman Christine Campbell. Hofstra loaded the bases on a walk, an infield single and two errors. Campbell walked Maggie Hawkins to force in the first run of the game and then Erin Trippi belted a grand slam to left to put the Pride up 5-0. Michaela Transue added an RBI single to cap the six run frame.

Lehigh scored its three runs in the top of the fourth. The Mountain Hawks loaded the bases with one out on three singles and a fielder's choice. Freshman Vicky Lattanzio singled up the middle bringing home sophomore Alexis Watanabe with Lehigh's first run. With junior Cassie Waggy batting, a Taylor Pirone wild pitch allowed Bausher to score from third, and then Waggy hit a sacrifice fly to center to bring sophomore Jessica Calvini home with the Mountain Hawks' third run.

Hofstra responded with four runs in the bottom of the frame on a two-run double by Trippi and a two-run home run by Becca Bigler to go up 10-3. Lehigh kept the Pride off the board in the fifth but Hawkins hit the first pitch of the sixth out to left field to end the game via the eight run rule.

Campbell allowed ten runs (eight earned) on nine hits in four innings and took the loss (8-7). She walked four and struck out three. Senior Kelsey Lee threw the final inning plus.

Pirone allowed three runs on five hits in six innings to earn the win. She did not strike out a batter but recorded 13 ground ball outs. Watanabe had two of Lehigh's five hits in game one.

Lashley was the story for Hofstra in game two. The former Army pitcher who beat Lehigh twice on the final day of last year's Patriot League Tournament fanned 14 in a complete game effort to post her 15th victory of the season. Lashley is now 5-6 lifetime against the Mountain Hawks.

Trippi opened the scoring with her seventh RBI of the day on a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the first.

The Pride broke the game open with another six run third inning. Hofstra posted six hits and capitalized on a pair of Lehigh errors in the frame, which was capped by a two-run homer to right by Caryn Bailey.

Decker accounted for Lehigh's offense in game two as she led off the fifth with a long solo home run to right. She had two of Lehigh's three hits in the nightcap with Waggy recording the other.

Kim Smith added an RBI single for Hofstra in the bottom of the sixth.

Senior Ashley Quigley took the loss in game two, allowing seven earned runs on 11 hits. She struck out two and walked to as she falls to 6-5.

The Mountain Hawks will play a pair of non-league doubleheaders this weekend. On Saturday, Lehigh will return to New York to face Manhattan, while on Sunday the Mountain Hawks will host Saint Francis (Pa.) at Kaufman Field. Action both days begins at noon.
