BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Trailing 2-0 after an inning and a half, the Lehigh softball team scored eight unanswered runs as the Mountain Hawks completed a three-game sweep of Holy Cross with an 8-2 win Sunday at Kaufman Field. Junior Emma Capetz went 2-for-3 with her first home run of the season and three RBI to lead the offense, while junior Emily Bausher and freshman Christine Campbell combined for five innings of scoreless relief.

The win improves the Mountain Hawks to 24-15 overall and 12-3 in Patriot League play. The Mountain Hawks have clinched a spot in the Patriot League Tournament with three league games remaining.

"Holy Cross took two games from BU so we had a lot of respect for them," said Lehigh head coach Fran Troyan. "Yesterday's second game could have gone either way and we were behind in this game. I was really pleased with how we battled back in this game to come back and answer with three in the second inning and then to get five runs in the third was great."

Holy Cross falls to 9-19 overall and 5-7 in league games.

The visiting Crusaders jumped out to a 2-0 lead against senior Ashley Quigley with three straight hits in the top of the second. Emily Krisanda reached base with a one-out double to center and then scored on a double to left by Emma Keough. Sarah Kane followed with a triple past a diving Vicky Lattanzio down the right field line to score Keough with Holy Cross' second run.

Lattanzio led off the bottom of the second with a single to center and came around to score Lehigh's first run on a double to deep left by sophomore Jessica Calvini. Two batters later, Capetz drilled the first pitch she saw down the left field line and tucked it just inside the foul pole for a two run home run, which gave the Mountain Hawks a 3-2 edge.

"She's having a great year," Troyan said of his junior shortstop. "We've been working on trying to generate a little more bat speed and clearly you need to have a little bat speed to hit it out of a park as big as ours."

After an infield single opened the third, Troyan brought Bausher on in relief and the hero of Saturday's doubleheader sweep delivered retiring the next three batters in the third and all three batters in the fourth.

Lehigh added to its lead with five runs in the third inning. The Mountain Hawks loaded the bases with nobody out on a single, a hit batter and a walk. Lattanzio then delivered with her second bases-loaded double in as many days with this one bringing home two runs. Two batters later, junior Cassie Waggy brought two more runs home with a double off the fence in left field. Capetz capped the inning with an RBI single that scored pinch runner Kristin Taft.

Campbell came on to pitch the fifth and after allowing two singles, it was Capetz who got the Mountain Hawks out of a jam, as she fielded a Sarah Free ground ball and started an inning-ending 6-6-3 double play. Campbell retired six of the final seven batters over the last two close out Lehigh's fifth straight win.

Bausher picked up her third win in as many days, as she retired all six batters she faced with two strikeouts to improve her record to 10-5. Campbell allowed two hits and a walk while striking out four in three innings of work. Quigley allowed two runs on four hits in her two-plus innings. She also struck out two.

Julia Barrett went two-plus for Holy Cross allowing six runs on five hits. Gennifer Durham came on to pitch the final four innings, allowing two runs on three hits.

The Mountain Hawks return to action on Wednesday when they face regional power Hofstra in a non-league doubleheader. First pitch for game one set for 4 p.m. from Hempstead, N.Y.
