PRINCETON, N.J. – The Lehigh men's track and field team wrapped up its busy weekend at Princeton's Larry Ellis Invite and Moravian's Greyhound Invitational Saturday. Senior Tyler Mueller set a new school record in the 5,000 meter run at Princeton while a total of six Mountain Hawks turned out IC4A qualifying marks.
"The system that we're using works," said head coach Matt Utesch. "We see evidence of it each week as our kids keep getting better and better. It was our first warm weather weekend and that really made a big difference because we got some great results."
Mueller set a new Lehigh record in the 5,000 meter run with a time of 13:58.81, besting the mark of 14:10.30 that was set by Evans Kosgei in 2012. Mueller finished second, finishing just 0.31 seconds behind Princeton's first-place finisher. Senior Jimmy Miller (14:10.74) and junior Ryan Mahalsky (14:26.23) joined Mueller in turning out IC4A qualifying marks as the two finished tenth and 25th, respectively.
Also at Princeton, the quartet of freshman Christopher Del Rossi, juniors Julian Copeland and Justin Mahoney and senior Martin Otieno finished seventh in the 4x100 meter relay with an IC4A qualifying time of 42.18.
Junior Adeolu Adesida finished fourth in the high jump with an IC4A qualifying leap of 2.04m. Freshman Anthony Galantini threw the javelin an IC4A qualifying mark of 59.45m to place fourth. Freshman Daniel Boardman claimed sixth place in the long jump with a new personal best leap of 6.84m.
At Moravian, junior Daniel Reilly (15.26.74) and sophomore Evan Ward (15:27.51) finished fifth and sixth in the 5000m run, respectively. Junior Christopher Watson finished sixth in the 800 meter run (49.73). The 4x400 meter relay team of John Ciavardelli, Sebastian Nicewicz, Tom Troxell and James Clements took fourth with a time of 3:24.20.
The Mountain Hawks will host the Lehigh games next weekend and also send athletes to the Penn Relays in the final weekend before Patriot League Championships.
