Mountain Hawks wrap up Lehigh Games and Penn Relays

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Lehigh men's track and field team wrapped up its final weekend of competition before Patriot League Championships with strong showings at the Penn Relays and Lehigh Games. The Mountain Hawks' 4x100 meter relay team turned out an IC4A qualifying time at the Penn Relays Friday before Lehigh won five events at the Lehigh Games on the Goodman Campus Track Saturday.
At the Penn Relays Friday, the 4x100 meter relay team of Christopher Del Rossi, Justin Mahoney, Julian Copeland and Martin Otieno finished their race in 42.39 seconds to place 47th in a field of 86 quartets and qualify for the IC4A Championships. Mahoney, Del Rossi and Otieno joined junior Christopher Watson in the 4x400 meter relay as the group finished in 3:19.27 to place 49th out of 86 teams.
At the Lehigh Games, senior Patrick Ciez placed first in the high jump with a leap of 1.95m. Freshman Daniel Boardman also jumped 1.95m, but finished in second based on misses. Senior Benjamin Beauchamp won the discus throw with a toss of 48.80m. Juniors Derek Gaul (6.83m) and Julian Copeland (6.66m) placed second and third in the long jump.
Senior Nicholas Molloy won the 1,500 meter race after finishing with a time of 4:00.26, beating out the second-place finisher by 0.40 seconds. Sophomore Evan Ward (15:28.25) and junior Daniel Reilly (15:45.77) took second and third, respectively, in the 5,000 meter run.
Otieno won both the 100 meter (11.15) and 200 meter (22.00) dashes. Mahoney picked up second in the 200 meter dash with a clip of 22.24. Senior Ryan Paquin (15.86) and sophomore Christopher Coffin (15.87) placed second and third, respectively, in the 110 meter hurdles. Del Rossi sprinted 400 meters in 48.94 seconds to place second.
Lehigh heads to Navy next weekend for the Patriot League Championships.
