BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Lehigh men's and women's track and field teams will head to Annapolis, Md. Friday and Saturday to compete in the two-day Patriot League Championship meet at Navy's Ingram Field. The action will begin at 9:45 a.m. Friday and continue through Saturday as both Mountain Hawk squads will be searching for their first-ever Patriot League Championship.
The Lehigh women put up 119.25 points at last year's outdoor championship to finish third behind Bucknell (183) and Navy (141). The men placed fourth with 85 points, finishing after Bucknell (184), Army (170) and Navy (159). The Mountain Hawk women impressed earlier this year as Lehigh took second place at the indoor championship meet, finishing only behind newcomer Boston University. The second-place finish was the best finish in program history for the women. The Lehigh men placed fifth at the indoor championship with Navy claiming the men's crown.
Senior Tyler Mueller owns two of the top times in the Patriot League thus far this season, sitting atop the leaderboards in both the 5,000 meter and 10,000 meter runs. Senior Jimmy Miller and junior Ryan Mahalsky also rank in the top five of both events, as the distance trio is sure to put a plethora of points on the board for the Mountain Hawks.
In the field events, junior Adeolu Adesida and junior Patrick Ciez have turned out the top two high jumps in the Patriot League so far this season. Senior Benjamin Beauchamp's best discus throw currently sits third in the league.
Senior Brooke Astor has recorded the best heptathlon score in the Patriot League so far this season and is followed by sophomore Gabrielle Wardle in second. Astor is the two-time defending heptathlon champion. Her 100 meter hurdles mark also sits in fourth place. Senior Jimil Atatman's best hammer throw ranks second in the Patriot League, as does freshman Courtney Avery's high jump. Junior Serenah Polite has turned out the third-best triple jump in the league so far this season, while senior Katie Baglio's discus toss stands in sixth place.
On the track, senior Jessica Kendzor's 800 meter run at the Bison Outdoor Classic is the best so far this season in the Patriot League. Sophomore Elizabeth Weiler is second in the 5,000 meter run, while senior Danielle Albergo is fifth in the 400 meter dash.
First team All-Patriot League status goes to the winners of each event, while second place finishers comprise the second-team All-League squads. Head coaches will vote following the conclusion of the championship on Male and Female Track Athlete, Field Athlete, Rookie and Coach of the Year honors.
After the league championship meet, those Mountain Hawks that have qualified will head to the ECAC/IC4A Outdoor Championships from May 16-17 at Princeton.
