LEWISBURG, Pa. – Junior Emily Bausher allowed a run on four hits over seven innings and belted a two-run home run to lead the Lehigh softball team to a 7-1 win over Bucknell in the first game of a doubleheader Saturday at Becker Field. The Mountain Hawks had to settle for a split however, as they managed just two hits in the nightcap and left ten runners on base as Colie Escobar's pinch-hit double propelled the Bison to a 2-0 win.
Following the split, Lehigh is now 19-15 overall and 8-3 in league play while Bucknell is now 15-17 and 7-4 in league games. Boston University was swept by Holy Cross in a doubleheader Saturday meaning the Mountain Hawks currently lead the Bison and Terriers by one game in the loss column.
Bausher moved to 3-0 in Patriot League play and 6-5 overall following the game one win. She struck out seven and walked three. Bausher gave Lehigh a 2-0 lead in the fourth inning with her third home run of the season after sophomore Morgan Decker drew a leadoff walk.
Bucknell scored its only run in game one as Cydnee Sanders doubled home Mallory Lyons in the fifth.
Lehigh responded with five runs in the sixth to put the game out of reach. With two outs, the Mountain Hawks put together six consecutive singles. Junior Emma Capetz drove in a run with the third of the six straight singles. Pinch hitter Carissa Zito followed with a two-run single, while two batters later Alexis Watanabe brought home another run with the sixth and final single. A bases loaded walk to Bausher capped the five-run frame.
Dana Nielsen suffered the loss for Bucknell allowing six runs on nine hits in 5.2 innings.
In game two, Watanabe recorded both of Lehigh's hits and the Mountain Hawks had base runners in six of seven innings but were shut out for just the second time this season.
Bucknell recorded just five hits off freshman Christine Campbell in the nightcap but three of them came in the third inning. Lyons and Sanders recorded back-to-back one out singles and Escobar brought them home with a pinch hit double to center.
Bison starter Lara Bean issued seven walks, including two of the first three batters in the seventh. Amanda Fazio came on with two on and one out and recorded the second out on a fielder's choice. Fazio then hit Decker to load the bases but got Bausher to fly out to center to end the game.
Campbell took the loss allowing two runs on five hits in six innings. She struck out four and did not walk a batter as she falls to 7-6.
Decker was 0-for-3 on the day but drew a walk and was hit by a pitch three times.
The Mountain Hawks and Bison will wrap-up their series with a single game Sunday at noon from Becker Field.
