
Mountain Hawks start outdoor season with strong showing at Philadelphia Classic

PHILADELPHIA – The Lehigh men's track and field team kicked off its outdoor season with an impressive showing at the Philadelphia College Classic Saturday at Penn's Franklin Field. Two Mountain Hawks turned out IC4A qualifying marks while multiple others finished atop their respective events. Lehigh competed against teams from around the Philadelphia region including Villanova, La Salle, Saint Joseph's and Penn.
 
Senior Patrick Ciez won the high jump with an IC4A qualifying mark of 2.05m. Freshman Daniel Boardman placed first in the long jump with a 6.56m leap and was followed by junior Julian Copeland in second (6.53m). Copeland was Lehigh's highest finisher in the triple jump, placing third with a leap of 13.26m.
 
Freshman Anthony Galantini placed second in the javelin with an IC4A qualifying throw of 60.18m. Classmate Lucas Warning placed fifth to grab Lehigh's top spot in the shot put with a throw of 14.47m, while senior Benjamin Beauchamp finished fourth in the hammer throw (43.45m).
 
The Mountain Hawks took the top four spots in the 1500 meter race, with junior Simon Voorhees claiming the victory with a clip of 4:00.40. Freshman Christopher Del Rossi shined in a pair of events, placing second in the 200 meter dash (22.55) and third in the 400 meter dash (50.05). Lehigh took second through sixth in the 800 meter run, led by junior Sebastian Nicewicz in second with a mark of 2:00.83.
 
Tom Troxell won the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 58.91, while sophomore Christopher Coffin finished second (59.39). Coffin also placed second in the 110 meter hurdles with a time of 16.89 and was followed by junior Andrew Culkin in second (16.89).
 
The Mountain Hawks head to the Winthrop Invite and Lafayette Seven-Way next weekend.
