BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Lehigh men's tennis team posted its fourth straight home win to open the 2014 campaign as the Mountain Hawks downed Fairleigh Dickinson 5-2 Saturday inside the Lewis Tennis Center. The Mountain Hawks won the bottom two doubles flights and added wins in the bottom four singles flights to win their 17th consecutive home match.

Doubles play began with Lehigh's No. 3 team of senior Timur Chernykh and freshman Tyler Hansen winning 6-3 over Arnaud Valentin and Julien Philippe. The Mountain Hawks' No. 2 team of junior Ben Gilman and sophomore Jeremy Kochman then won 6-3 over Jacob Whalley and Diego Garnel to clinch the doubles point for Lehigh.

Hansen extended Lehigh's lead with a 6-3, 6-4 win over Garnel at No. 4 singles while Whalley put the Knights on the board with a 6-4, 6-4 win over senior Mark Goldberg at the No. 2 flight.

Two of the first four singles matches went three sets with junior Mitchell Petersen put Lehigh on the brink of clinching the match with a victory over Gonzalo Quintana but Arvis Berzins made it 3-2 Lehigh with a three-set win over Gilman at the top flight.

Freshman Ethan Bogard delivered the clinching point with a 6-4, 6-4 win over Philippe at the No. 6 flight. Chernykh won the final point of the match for the Mountain Hawks defeating Valentin in a third-set ten-point tiebreak.

The Mountain Hawks' scheduled match at Penn State on Sunday was initially postponed, but an improving forecast means the match may be played Sunday at 5 p.m. If not, Lehigh will return to action when the Mountain Hawks host Mount St. Mary's, Sunday February 16 at 2 p.m.
