Lehigh faces first Patriot League road test Saturday at Georgetown

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Two teams searching for their first Patriot League victory of the season meet Saturday in Washington, D.C. as Lehigh visits Georgetown. After defeating Cornell on the road on October 18 for their first win, the Mountain Hawks ran into a tough Fordham squad last weekend, giving up 588 yards in a 48-27 homecoming loss that dropped Lehigh to 0-2 in the league for the first time since 2007. Senior Josh Parris caught eight passes for 83 yards and a touchdown, while Lehigh rushed for 190 yards, with Rich Sodeke and Nick Shafnisky combining for 174.

Georgetown enters Saturday's game at 2-6 overall and 0-3 in Patriot League play. The Hoyas have lost their last four games but played league foes Lafayette and Bucknell tough in their two most recent losses. Georgetown boasts a tough defense that leads the Patriot League allowing just 19.1 points and 157.9 passing yards per game, but the Hoyas have struggled offensively, scoring just 12.8 points per contest while averaging just 294 yards per game.

Junior Kyle Nolan is the Hoyas' starting quarterback. He will look to classmate Jo'el Kimpela (535 rushing yards) to shoulder the load offensively. Defensive end Alec May leads the defense with 13.5 sacks and 16 tackles for loss. Georgetown's two wins came against Marist and Brown.

Through Lehigh's first five games this season, senior wide receiver Josh Parris averaged just four catches for 42 yards. The senior captain has certainly stepped up his game over the last two weeks with eight catches for 84 yards at Cornell and eight grabs for 83 against Fordham. Parris also caught a 32-yard touchdown against the Rams, his longest reception of the season. The Coopersburg, Pa., product leads the Mountain Hawks with 37 catches for 377 yards this season.

Difficulties on third downs have played a significant role in Lehigh's 1-6 start to the season. In its first four games Lehigh's offense converted a respectable 46 percent of its third downs but in its last three outings the Mountain Hawks have converted at just 25 percent, including a combined 4-for-22 in two league games. Defensively the Mountain Hawks have had trouble getting off the field all season long. Fordham converted 10-of-16 third downs, while for the season Lehigh is allowing opponents to convert at a rate of nearly 53 percent.

Lehigh and Georgetown meet for the 20th time with the Mountain Hawks leading the series 14-5. Lehigh has won the last 13 meetings, including Patriot League-title clinching wins in 2010 and 2011. The Brown and White met the Hoyas for the first time in 1901 and the teams did not meet between 1926 and 2001.
