BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Coming off a pair of losses, the Lehigh field hockey team will look to bounce back this weekend when it travels to Boston University (Saturday) and Brown (Sunday). Gametimes on both days are set for 12 p.m.
The Mountain Hawks were riding a three-game winning streak before two tough losses to Colgate and Fairfield. A win against Boston on Saturday would bring them level in the Patriot League at 2-2.
Before last weekend, Lehigh had beaten Georgetown, Holy Cross and Sacred Heart while also defeating Towson two games prior. The Colgate game came down to the wire, but the Raiders ended up victorious, 2-1. Lehigh outshot Colgate 19-5 in the second half, but could only beat goalie Amanda DiDomizio once. The Mountain Hawks followed on Sunday with a 4-0 loss at Fairfield.
Sophomore Gabby Tofig has led the offensive charge for the Mountain Hawks with seven goals so far this season while junior Lindsey Schott has provided a balanced attack of four goals and three assists. Two of Lehigh's standouts last weekend were freshman goalie Katie Morris, who entered the Fairfield game in the second half and made two quick saves to keep the game close, and sophomore Kassidy Green, who scored her first-career goal in the second half against Colgate.
Boston University has played an extremely challenging schedule and holds a 6-5 record entering Saturday's contest against the Mountain Hawks. Three of their five losses have come to teams ranked in the top 15, including a loss to #12 Stanford, a double overtime defeat to #14 Northwestern and an overtime loss to #15 Boston College. The Terriers are 1-1 in league play with a win against Lafayette and loss to Bucknell. Two sophomores, Amanda Cassera and Hester van der Laan, have been leading the way with six and four goals, respectively. Valentina Cerda owns a 1.99 goals against average and .709 save percentage between the pipes.
The Terriers won the first-ever meeting between the two schools last season, 3-1.
Following Saturday's game, the Mountain Hawks will travel south to Providence, Rhode Island where they'll face Brown University. The Bears are 6-3 on the year and own a 5-1 home record, but they're coming off a loss to Quinnipiac on Wednesday. Both Lehigh and Brown have played, and beaten, Sacred Heart and Georgetown this year while the teams have several more common opponents. Senior Meghan O'Donnell has been the offensive facilitator for the Bears as she's already posted seven goals and six assists for 20 points. She's gotten some help from junior Alexis Miller, who has four goals while four others own five points or more.
The all-time series is tied at one apiece with the last meeting coming in 2006, a 4-1 Brown victory. Lehigh won the first-ever meeting in 2005, 2-0 at Brown.
After this weekend, the Mountain Hawks will return to action next Sunday (Oct. 19) at Lock Haven.
