Lehigh drops 1-0 defensive battle at Boston University

BOSTON, Mass. - The Lehigh field hockey team allowed just 13 shots and five shots on goal to a strong Boston University offense, but the Mountain Hawks couldn't generate enough offense in a 1-0 loss on a rainy Saturday afternoon. Sophomore Julia Ward made four saves in goal while senior Steph Fratoni added a defensive stop. Lehigh returns to action in 24 hours at Brown University.

"The team played tremendous defense today," said Lehigh head coach Stacey Eversley. "We had limited opportunities to score and need to work on creating more attacking opportunities for tomorrow. It was an outstanding effort and a great Patriot League fight for 70 minutes."

A very defensive game saw neither team record a shot on goal until the 32nd minute when Ward made three saves in less than three minutes to keep the game scoreless heading into halftime. Sophomore Marissa Glatt tallied a shot in the 20th minute that went wide.

Just under 15 minutes into the second half, the Terriers pressured which led to the game's only goal. Boston University created a pair of penalty corners, and shots. Fratoni made a defensive save, but the Mountain Hawks couldn't stop the rebound as Kali Shumock made it 1-0 at 50:28.

Lehigh continued to impress defensively, but couldn't generate enough offense as the 1-0 score stood as the final.

Final shots were 13-1 in favor of Boston University while the Terriers held a 6-0 edge in penalty corners.

Lehigh will head to Providence for a 12 p.m. game against the Brown Bears.
