WEST POINT, N.Y. – The Lehigh men's swimming and diving team has historically had trouble in dual meets with the Army Black Knights and Friday night was no different as the host Black Knights spoiled Lehigh's first dual of the new year with a 196-97 win over the Mountain Hawks at Crandall Pool. Freshman Jacob Moyar won a pair of events to lead the Mountain Hawks as Lehigh fell to 4-3 on the dual season.
The loss dropped Lehigh to 0-43 all-time versus Army in men's swimming and diving. The Black Knights evened their record at 3-3, winning 12 of the first 14 events before swimming unscored in the final two men's events.
Moyar posted Lehigh's first win with a time of 1:51.76 in the 200 yard butterfly and later added a win in the 500 yard freestyle in 4:41.42. The Centreville, Virginia native also picked up the nine first-place points in the 200 yard individual medley after a time of 1:56.71 that would have been good for second had Army officially scored in the final two events.
Lehigh's usually strong core of sprinters was stymied by the Black Knights in Friday's meet. Senior Chris Hoke took second in the 50 yard freestyle as his time of 21.48 seconds was edged by Chris Szekely's 21.11. Hoke also led Lehigh with a fourth place finish in the 100 free. Freshman Justin White was the top Mountain Hawk in the 200 free with a third place finish.
Junior Sean Brant added a pair of runner-up finishes for the Mountain Hawks, taking second in both the 100 and 200 yard backstroke events.
The Mountain Hawks will look to rebound when they return to Jacobs Pool on Saturday January 18 to face Patriot League newcomer Loyola at 1 p.m.
