GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Lehigh men's track and field team's season concluded Saturday at North Carolina A&T's Irwin Belk Track after sophomore Adeolu Adesida broke the school record in the high jump. His 2.14-meter leap tied for 11th place, but earlier misses put him at no. 22 in the field of 48 competitors. Junior Pat Ciez finished tied for 22nd place with a mark of 2.00 meters and put him at no. 46 in the event.
Adesida's jump tied him with Samford's Bob Elliott II and surpassed his earlier personal record of 2.12 meters set at the Lehigh Games. Adesida's two initial misses at the 2.14-meter mark broke an 11-way tie however, costing him a shot at one of 12 spots in the final round of the NCAA Championships.
Competing in the first flight, Ciez cleared 2.00 meters in his second attempt. He ends the outdoor season as the Patriot League Champion in the high jump. Adesida also earned All-League honors in the event by finishing second at the Patriot League Championships at the Goodman Campus. The two Mountain Hawks competed in the high jump at the indoor and outdoor IC4A Championships this year.
Senior Devin Monroe crossed the finish line in 49.05 seconds in the 400 meter dash Thursday, but did not advance to Friday's semifinals. He ends his Lehigh career with nine top-three finishes at the indoor and outdoor Patriot League Championships combined, including four as a member of a relay team. Monroe competed in three different events at the IC4A Championships in his four years at Lehigh and was a member of the indoor 4x400 meter relay team that currently holds the school record at 3:16.71.
"I pulled E'lana (Lemon) and Devin aside after the meet and told them they were exactly what our program is all about," Utesch said. "They have excelled academically and done amazing things athletically and I can't thank them enough."
