Beauchamp named to Academic All-Patriot League Team

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Lehigh track and field junior Benjamin Beauchamp was selected as one of 10 members of the Academic All-Patriot League Team, the league announced Monday. The Electrical Engineering major from Spencer, N.Y., earned the distinction for the first time in his career after holding a 3.88 cumulative grade-point average.
Beauchamp finished 19th out of 38 competitors in the discus throw at the IC4A Outdoor Championships on Saturday in Princeton, N.J. after posting a mark of 47.78 meters. He won the same event at the Greyhound Invitational on April 19 with a heave of 46.53 meters. Beauchamp also competed in the hammer throw throughout the outdoor season, finishing third in the event at both the Philadelphia College Classic on March 23 and the Greyhound Invitational. He finished 10th in the hammer throw at the Patriot League Outdoor Championships on May 3 at the Goodman Campus after posting a sixth place finish in the discus at the same meet.In addition to his athletic accomplishments, Beauchamp earned academic accolades in 2012 when he was named to the Patriot League Honor Roll.
To be eligible for the Scholar-Athlete of the Year award and the Academic All-Patriot League Team, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative grade-point average and be a starter or key player in their sport. Freshmen or students in their first academic year at their school are not eligible for the honor.
The NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships begin with the east regional May 23-25 in Greensboro, N.C. Selections to the competition will be announced at 1 p.m. Thursday. The major award winners and remaining members of the Academic All-Patriot League Team are listed below:
