Two softball seniors collect Patriot League weekly awards

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Two Lehigh softball players earned Patriot League Weekly honors following their performances as the Mountain Hawks went 4-1 last week in action against Rider and Lafayette. Senior Rosie Roessel was named Player of the Week for the first time in her career, while senior Becca Bliss earned Pitcher of the Week honors for the second straight week.
Roessel hit safely in all five games and posted her first two RBI of the season in wins over Rider on Wednesday and Lafayette in game one on Saturday. She batted .750 in four games versus Lafayette with six runs scored. Lehigh's centerfielder was 6-for-6 on stolen base attempts versus Lafayette and went 4-for-5 with five runs scored after moving into the leadoff spot for Sunday's doubleheader.
The Fairport, N.Y. native batted .636 last week to raise her season average to .367. Roessel is now hitting .647 in eight Patriot League games and has stolen 15 bases this season without being caught.
The Escondido, California native and preseason Patriot League Pitcher of the Year has now won her last 15 Patriot League regular season starts and has won 20 straight decisions against Patriot League opponents, including the regular season and Patriot League tournament, dating back to 2011.
For the season Bliss owns a 10-6 record and 1.96 ERA in 100 innings of work.
Also on Monday, freshman Morgan Decker earned an honorable mention from the league after hitting safely in all five games and leading the Mountain Hawks with five runs batted in. Decker had the go-ahead two-run double in the sixth inning of the win over Rider, and added two key RBI in Sunday's game one win over Lafayette.
Six different players have now earned Patriot League weekly awards this season for Lehigh, which improved to 18-13-1 overall and 6-2 in the Patriot League with its 4-1 showing last week.
The Mountain Hawks will return to action on Wednesday with a midweek doubleheader at Fordham with first pitch for game one set for 3 p.m. from the Bronx, N.Y. Lehigh will host Army in a key Patriot League series, Saturday and Sunday at Kaufman Field.
