Patriot League Release

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Lehigh track and field junior Adeolu Adesida and senior Brooke Astor have been named the Patriot League Field Athletes of the Week, as announced by the league on Monday afternoon. Adesida set a new school record in the high jump, while Astor impressed with an ECAC qualifying mark and first-place finish in the pentathlon on Friday and Saturday inside Rauch Fieldhouse.

Adesida shattered the IC4A qualifying standard and set a new school record with a 2.18 meter high jump on Saturday evening at Lehigh's Fast Times Before Finals meet. The mark set a new standard for the facility and easily topped the qualifying mark of 2.04 meters. The junior's impressive jump broke the record of 2.14m that was set in 2004 by Vaclav Malek.

The Princeton, N.J. native's leap was a new personal record as well, besting his previous record of 2.14 meters. Adesida also holds the Patriot League Championship meet record with a leap of 2.12 meters last season. This is his first Patriot League weekly honor.

Astor put up a personal best score of 3,758 in the pentathlon to win at Lehigh's Fast Times Before Finals meet, besting her previous record of 3,450.  It easily topped the ECAC standard of 3,450 and also marked a new facility record at Rauch Fieldhouse.

Astor won three of the five pentathlon events to cruise to a first place finish. She began with an ECAC qualifying clip of 8.80 in the 60-meter hurdles. She recorded a new personal record in the shot put (10.66) and tied her personal best in the long jump (5.46m). This is Astor's first Patriot League Field Athlete of the Week honor.

Adesida, Astor and the Mountain Hawks return to action on Jan. 11 when they head to West Point, N.Y. to compete in the Army 5-Way.
