Lehigh hosts defending league champion Colgate on Friday to begin weekend

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Lehigh Volleyball team will host a key Patriot League battle on Friday night when it welcomes defending Patriot League champions Colgate into Leeman-Turner Arena for a 7 p.m. match. The Mountain Hawks will then head to Lewisburg to take on Bucknell on Saturday at 5 p.m. Lehigh has won three consecutive matches and seven of its last eight while off to its best Patriot League start since 2002.
The Mountain Hawks are coming off an impressive 3-1 win over Navy last Saturday. Lehigh is near the top of all statistical measures across the Patriot League board, leading the league in assists per game at 12.68 as well as service aces per game. The Mountain Hawks average of 2.00 service aces per game is also good for third best in the nation. Juniors Kaylynn Genemaras and Jade Van Streepen have led the team to the second most kills in the league with 154 and 149 kills, respectively.
Lehigh's defense has been strong throughout the first half of the season, ranking second in the league in opponent hitting percentage and fourth in total blocks. Senior Rachel Charles leads the team with 203 digs. Sophomore Ana Vrhel leads the team with 38 total blocks, which sits eighth among all Patriot League players.
Colgate puts its undefeated league record on the line Friday and carries a 9-5 overall record this season. The Raiders are coming off a sweep of Holy Cross and a 3-1 victory over Army last weekend. Colgate ranks first in the league in digs, led by senior Caitlin Cremin. They also rank second among Patriot League teams in hitting percentage, one spot ahead of the Mountain Hawks.
Friday's match will mark the 49th all-time meeting between the two schools, with Colgate holding a 34-14 advantage. The teams have split the last four meetings and Colgate claimed the last meeting, 3-0, in last year's Patriot League Semifinals.
Bucknell will enter Saturday's match with an 0-4 Patriot League record and a 6-7 overall mark. The Bison have fallen to American, Navy, Army and Holy Cross so far in league play. The team is led by Morgan Mientus who has tallied 106 kills, followed by freshman Erika Eastly with 100.
Saturday's match will mark the 67th all-time meeting between the two programs, with Lehigh holding the 39-27 advantage. The Bison took the last match 3-2, but the Mountain Hawks will be aiming for their fifth win over Bucknell in the last six matches.
A live broadcast of both matches will be available for free via the Patriot League Network. Live stats will also be available.
Following this weekend's two matches, the Mountain Hawks will begin preparations for next Saturday's meeting against American, which is slated for a 4 p.m. start time in Leeman-Turner Arena.
