BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Coming off its most dominant all-around performance of the season, No. 15 Lehigh seeks a 2-0 Patriot League start as the Mountain Hawks visit the Bucknell Bison on Saturday. Behind a balanced offensive attack, Lehigh built a 38-3 halftime lead en route to a 45-24 win over Georgetown last weekend at Goodman Stadium. The Mountain Hawks gained 532 yards of offense including a season-high 234 on the ground. Senior Keith Sherman had a career-high 157 rushing yards and two touchdowns, while classmate Sean Farrell scored touchdowns on three of his four carries.
Â
Bucknell returns home after an impressive 17-14 win at Dartmouth. The Bison come in at 0-2 in the Patriot League with losses to Lafayette and Holy Cross, but boast the league's top rushing defense and the league's top defensive unit in terms of yards allowed.
          Â
Sherman eclipsed his previous career best (107 yards) before the first quarter was over. He added a 27-yard reception that was stopped at the one yard line to finish with a career-best 184 all-purpose yards. The 234 rushing yards were Lehigh's highest single-game rushing output since gaining 268 at Colgate on October 29, 2011.
Â
Lehigh's 38 first half points against Georgetown were the most scored in one half by the Mountain Hawks in 11 years. In 2002, the Mountain Hawks built a 49-0 halftime lead on Georgetown en route to a 69-0 win at Goodman Stadium. Since that 2002 Georgetown game, Lehigh posted 35 points in a half on two occasions. The Mountain Hawks scored 35 points in the first half at Holy Cross in a 42-14 win in 2004 and matched that number in the second half of a 49-24 win at Harvard in 2005. The Goodman Stadium record for points in a half is 51, set by Lehigh against Central Connecticut State in 2001.
Â
Special teams paved the way for the Mountain Hawks in their 42-19 win over Bucknell last season. Lehigh blocked four kicks in the first half, including three punts and an extra point. LaQuan Lambert blocked two punts and ran the first block back 60 yards for the game's first touchdown. For his efforts, Lambert earned Special Teams Player of the Week honors from the Patriot League, ECAC and nationally from the Sports Network. Anthony Verderame blocked an extra point, his second blocked kick in as many games, while Tashan Mitchell blocked a Bison punt on the last play of the first half.
Â
Lehigh has played Bucknell more times than any Patriot League opponent in school annals other than rival Lafayette. The Mountain Hawks and Bison meet for the 77th time Saturday with Lehigh holding a 44-29 advantage (there have also been three ties). Lehigh has won 15 straight meetings versus Bucknell, which is the longest win streak for either school in the history of the series.
Â
Saturday's game kicks off just after 1 p.m. from Christy Mathewson-Memorial Stadium in Lewisburg, Pa. Streaming video of the contest will be available through the Patriot League Network. Audio coverage will be available on ESPN Radio 1230 and 1320, ESPNLV.com and Lehighsports.com, with pregame coverage beginning at noon.
