Mahoney named Patriot League Rookie of the Week

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Lehigh track and field freshman Justin Mahoney was named the Patriot League track and field rookie of the week, as announced by the league Monday. The North Baldwin, N.Y. native was part of the 4X100m relay team that took first at the Moravian College Coach Pollard Invitational with an IC4A qualifying time while the time also set a new meet record. Mahoney also finished second in the 400m dash.
Mahoney along with Ifeanyi Edochie, Martin Otieno and Devin Monroe won the 4x100m relay event with a time of 42.03 seconds to qualify for the IC4A Championships, surpassing the 42.50 seconds needed. The time was also a new meet record. The time was also just a second short of the Lehigh school record which was set in 2003 (41.48 seconds).
In his second event of the meet, Mahoney placed second in the 400m dash with a time of 48.60 seconds, just 0.40 seconds behind first.
At the meet, Lehigh won five events highlighted by the 4X100m relay team. The Mountain Hawks also competed at the Bucknell Outdoor Classic where Lehigh won three events while four qualified for IC4As.
Lehigh will look to keep its momentum going this weekend as the team splits up to compete in the Greyhound Invite at Moravian and the Larry Ellis Invitational at Princeton.
