RADFORD, Va. – In its first game action in ten days, Lehigh suffered a pair of tough losses on day one of the Radford Invitational Saturday at RU Softball Field. A seventh-inning rally fell just short as the Mountain Hawks dropped their first game of the day, 5-4 to Binghamton, while Lehigh was limited to five hits in a 3-0 loss to host Radford in the nightcap. The Mountain Hawks are now 8-10 on the season.

With Lehigh down 5-1 in the top of the seventh, senior Julie Fernandez belted a long three-run home run to right field to bring the Mountain Hawks within one. Junior Liz Lucas singled to put the tying-run on base, but freshman Cassie Waggy's ground ball to second base turned into a game-ending double play.

Binghamton (7-8) took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the third inning as Meghan Tucker scored from third base on a double steal.

Lehigh tied the game in the fifth when senior Tenley Halaquist singled and then came around to score on an error. The Bearcats went back in front with two runs in the bottom of the fifth and tacked on two more in the sixth with an RBI single and a sacrifice fly to lead 5-1 going into the seventh.

The Mountain Hawks out-hit the Bearcats 11-8 but stranded eight runners on base. Senior Jen Colquhoun had three singles for Lehigh, while Fernandez, Halaquist and junior Kristen Mitchell had two hits apiece.

Junior Rebecca Bliss started in the circle, allowing five runs on six hits in five innings.  She struck out six and walked two as she falls to 1-4 with the loss. Demi Laney earned the win for Binghamton allowing one unearned run in six innings of work.

In game two, Radford (9-8) plated a pair of runs in the bottom of the third on an RBI double from Micalah Sacre and a single from Jessie Hutchens. The Highlanders added to their lead in the sixth inning as Hannah Ojeda reached on a Colquhoun error and scored on a Sacre error.

Three of Lehigh's five hits came in the first two innings, including a double by Halaquist. Waggy added a seventh inning double for the Mountain Hawks, but Radford's Jackie Jenkins was able to keep the Mountain Hawks off the scoreboard, striking out three and walking none in a complete-game effort.
Freshman Emily Bausher started for Lehigh and allowed three runs (two earned) on nine hits in six innings. She walked two and struck out six as she falls to 4-5 on the season.

The Mountain Hawks will wrap-up action at the Radford Invitational on Sunday when they face Binghamton at 10 a.m. and Radford at 2 p.m.
