Bishop signs professional contract with Harrisburg Heat

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Former Lehigh men's soccer standout goalkeeper Sam Bishop (2005) has signed a professional contract to play for the Harrisburg Heat of the Professional Arena Soccer League. Bishop had previously played professionally for the Harrisburg City Islanders of the United Soccer Leagues (USL) and was part of the Islanders team that won the USL-2 championship.
"What a great opportunity for Sam to continue playing professionally and it has been exciting to see Sam pursue his passion for playing soccer professionally, while owning a successful web development company," said Lehigh head coach Dean Koski. "On behalf of the Lehigh Soccer family we wish Sam great success and hope that alumni and friends will get out to see the Heat play this winter!"
Bishop posted a stellar .063 goals against average during his senior season in 2004 and his .067 career goals against average is the best all-time among Mountain Hawk goalkeepers. Bishop also served as the 2009 goalkeeper coach for the Mountain Hawks and played and coached for the PA Stoners of the National Premier Soccer League from 2008-2009.
"As for playing pro at this point in my career, I couldn't be happier," said Bishop. Playing pro indoor is a new challenge and an entirely new game to learn for me. The fact that I get to play with some of my teammates from my early outdoor years makes it even more fun. I'm excited to be a part of a competitive team with a rich history."
