HAMDEN, Conn. - The Lehigh field hockey team hung with 14th nationally ranked Maine for much of the first half, but the nation's highest scoring offense proved too powerful, scoring seven second-half goals to down the Mountain Hawks, 11-0. Sophomore goalkeeper Sierra Segear finished with 12 saves, her fifth double-digit save performance in seven games this season. Lehigh will look to regroup when it welcomes Siena to Ulrich Field on Wednesday.

Segear kept Lehigh in the game early with five big stops in the first 13:20. After a flurry of Maine shots, Lehigh responded with a penalty corner and shot of its own at 13:02, but the Black Bears came back just 2:29 later with their first goal of the game when Stephanie Gardiner beat Segear to make it 1-0.

Maine followed with three more first-half tallies, at 18:57, 21:11 and right before halftime at 34:28 for a 4-0 score after 35 minutes of play.

The Black Bears came out firing in the second half, erasing any doubt with seven goals for the 11-0 final.
Junior Kim Eng led the Mountain Hawks with two shots (one on goal) while freshman Steph Fratoni had the other.

Maine led the final shot count, 28-3, and in penalty corners, 15-3. Segear made 12 saves before being relieved by freshman Sydney Maltinsky-Wilson, who posted three; sophomore Marie Mignogna also made a defense save. Sydney Kolysher made one stop for the Black Bears.

The Mountain Hawks will return home on Wednesday to host Siena at 4 p.m. before heading back on the road for their Patriot League opener at American on Saturday, Oct. 1.
