Quigley's no-hitter leads Lehigh to split Tuesday in Florida

KISSIMMEE, Fla. – In its most impressive performance of the young season Lehigh blanked Wagner 8-0 in five innings in its first of two games Tuesday at the Rebel Spring Games. Freshman Ashley Quigley tossed a five-inning no-hitter while Lehigh's offense tallied nine hits and capitalized on three key Seahawk errors. In its second game of the day Lehigh fell 5-4 to Florida A&M.

With plenty of run support behind her, Quigley fired the first no-hitter since Rebecca Bliss no-hit Army over five innings on April 11 of last year. Quigley faced just one batter over the minimum and did not walk a batter, while recording one strikeout. Wagner's only baserunner came in the bottom of the fourth inning when Ashley Olsen reached on an error by junior second baseman Tenley Halaquist.

Lehigh took an early 1-0 lead when sophomore Liz Lucas doubled home senior Alex Cueva in the first inning. In the second inning, the Mountain Hawks added two runs when junior Audra Wood's fly ball to center field was misplayed by Hailey Corthell. Sophomores Jacqi Kennelly and Rosie Roessel scored on the two base error to put Lehigh up 3-0.

The lead grew to 6-0 in the fourth inning as Lehigh plated three more runs in the frame. The Mountain Hawks loaded the bases on two Seahawk errors and a walk. With two outs, Halaquist came in to score on a passed ball, before junior Julie Fernandez singled home two more runs.

Halaquist atoned for her error in the fifth, drilling a two-run double to left center, which put Lehigh up by eight runs. In the bottom of the frame, Quigley closed out the no-hitter by inducing two fly ball outs to Roessel in center field before getting Brittany Huss to ground out to shortstop to end the game. The win was the first of Quigley's college career as the Arizona native moves to 1-5 on the season.

Lucas had two of Lehigh's nine hits, both doubles, to lead Lehigh at the plate.
The Mountain Hawks were not as fortunate in their second game of the day, dropping a tight 5-4 game to a tough Florida A&M squad.

Fernandez gave Lehigh an early lead with her first home run of the season, but the Rattlers scored twice in the third and added three unearned runs in the fourth to go up 5-1. Lucas did her part to keep Lehigh in the game, going 2-for-3 with a two-run double in the fifth and a RBI single in the seventh, but the Mountain Hawks committed four errors and could not push the tying run across in the late innings.

Lehigh will be off on Wednesday and will return to action on Thursday when the Mountain Hawks meet Yale at 3 p.m. and play their second game of the week against South Dakota at 5 p.m.
