Lucas named Patriot League Player of the Week

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The Lehigh softball team is coming off a solid week in Florida where the Mountain Hawks won five out of their eight games. The Mountain Hawks had wins over Detroit Mercy, Manhattan, Wagner, South Dakota and Sacred Heart. The play of sophomore catcher Liz Lucas stood out during the week for the Mountain Hawks, and was named Patriot League Player of the Week on Monday.
Lucas hit safely in five of six games between March 7 and 11, with four multi-hit games. Lucas finished the week going 10-for-29 at the plate (.526) with six doubles, two home runs and 13 runs batted in. She registered four multi-hit games and had four three-RBI games. Lucas closed out Lehigh's eight game Florida trip by going 3-for-4 with a double and three RBI in a 9-1, five inning win over Manhattan on Friday.
The Westminster, Colorado native is having a stellar season for the Mountain Hawks so far. She has 17 hits and 17 RBIs in 13 games so far this season, which leads the team. Lucas also leads the team batting average (.425), doubles (seven), home runs (two) and slugging percentage (.750).
Lucas also had a very productive freshman year. She was one of only two players to start all 50 games for the Brown and White. She led the Mountain Hawks with six home runs and finished second the team with 11 doubles and 37 RBIs. She also earned Patriot League Rookie of the Week honors twice.
The Mountain Hawks return to action Friday, as they are participating in the JMU Days Inn Invitational in Harrisonburg, Va. Lehigh will face Binghamton and host James Madison twice and the Red Storm of St. John's once in the three-day tournament. The Mountain Hawks will open up against Binghamton Friday at 10 a.m.
