BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Lehigh men's and women's track and field teams will compete in its second meet in as many weeks as the Mountain Hawks host the Fast Times Before Finals Friday inside the Rauch Fieldhouse.
At last Friday's Season Opener, the Lehigh teams combined for 14 first-place finishes highlighted by three ECAC qualifiers. On the men's side, Stephen Tutunjian won the triple jump with a qualifying distance of 14.56m while Patrick Ciez qualified in the high jump with a distance of 2.04m. For the women, it was E'lana Lemon who qualified in the weight throw with a distance of 17.57m and for her efforts, was named the Patriot League Female Field Athlete of the Week.
“I was really pleased with the meet,” said head coach Matt Utesch. “We had a lot of great efforts and performances, and we came out healthy which is always a bonus. We want to come out Friday and build on what we started. Our intensity will pick up and hopefully we start to peak and bring a little more to each meet until we get to Patriot League Championships.”
The Mountain Hawks will continue to look for strong performances Friday as they will be competing against Bloomsburg, Millersville, Alvernia, West Chester, DeSales, East Stroudsburg, Rider and Monmouth.
“Sometimes we saw the deer in the headlights look but that should be going away now and they should be ready to go and win,” Utesch said. “We place a premium on winning, not just for the freshmen but everyone. Times don't matter - just win and keep winning all season long and you'll be running fast because competition will continue to get better.”
Action on Friday begins with the field events at 6 p.m. inside Rauch Fieldhouse. Track events will begin at approximately 6:30. Following Friday's meet, the Lehigh track and field teams will be off until January 14th when the Mountain Hawks will compete at West Point. Lehigh will host three more events this year: The Mountain Hawks Multi Invite on January 20th, the Lafayette dual on January 28th and the John Convert Classic on February 4th.
