Tutunjian, Caldwell earn weekly League awards

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Senior Stephen Tutunjian was named the Patriot League Male Field Athlete of the Week and freshman Gregory Caldwell was named the Patriot League Male Rookie of the Week, as announced by the League on Monday. At Saturday's meet, Tutunjian won the long jump and recorded an IC4A-qualfying mark in the triple jump while Caldwell picked up his first collegiate victory placing first in the 800-meter run.
Tutunjian is undefeated this season in the long jump and triple jump as he won both events at the Season Opener on December 2nd and then at Friday's Fast Times Before Finals. The Shrewsbury, Mass. native took home the victory in the long jump by just 0.02m as he jumped 6.87m. Then on Saturday for the second week in a row Tutujian won the triple jump with an IC4A-qualfying distance. He jumped 14.73m, well surpassing the 14.30m needed to qualify and he also improved upon his 14.56m finish at the Season Opener.
The honor was Tutunjian's third career Patriot League Male Athlete of the Week award.
Caldwell won his first collegiate event Saturday as he finished first in the 800-meter run with a time of 1:59.17, just finishing ahead of a runner from Monmouth by 0.24 seconds. The Jackson, N.J. native was also part of a Lehigh team that finished fourth in the 4x800-meter relay with a time of 8:20.84, less than a second away from the third-place team. In Caldwell's only other collegiate event, which came at the Season Opener, he finished second in the 1,000-meter run.
Tutunjian, Caldwell and the rest of the Mountain Hawks will return to action on January 14th when the Mountain Hawks will compete at West Point. Lehigh will host three more events this year: the Mountain Hawks Multi Invite on January 20th, the Lafayette dual on January 28th and the John Convert Classic on February 4th.
